Examples:

Many school rules are for the safety of students.

The article “All Children Lie,” written by Joe Smith states that children over the age of five deliberately lie to their parents.

Author’s Purpose

The reason the author decided to write about the topic. Often it is to persuade, inform, or entertain the reader.

Examples:

Every person should buy a dog.

Many bees are placed on the endangered species list.

The fire truck actually caught on fire itself.
